Monterrico is a beautiful natural reserve of 2,800 hectares. In this protected area you will find mangrove swamps and there is also a sea turtle sanctuary. You will also see a lot of different migratory birds. The volcanic, black sand beach is a special attraction in this area. On the beach you can admire extremely beautiful sunrises and sunsets during most mornings and evenings of the year.

The tour to the mangroves
Take the beautiful tour to the mangroves, to see the richness of this protected area, with its´ nature, the beautiful sunrise, the fishes, the birds and experience the quietness in this special area in the early morning. It is a tour that lasts about 1.5-2 hours and you start from the hotel about 5-5.20 AM depending on the season.
Horsback riding
Horseback riding on the beach for one hour.
Hatchery
Visit the Hatchery, which is a little more than one kilometer from the hotel.
Sea turtles coming up on the beach
From July to October/November you can have a walk on the beach to look for the big turtles coming up to lay their eggs. Depending on the climate, the tour starts at 7.30-8.30 PM and lasts about two (2) hours. There are no guarantees that you will see turtles, but when you do it is a very exciting experience…
Release new born turtles
From September to February they release the new born turtles most every afternoon at 5.30 pm. By adopting a turtle for 10 Q you can help El Centro de Estudios Conservacionistas CECON-USAC to get funds to buy more eggs.
Deep sea fishing
A fishing tour on the ocean can be arranged during some part of the year, but must be booked some days before.
Massage
Massage can be offered at the hotel.
Art Gallery
An interesting visit to the art gallery with the painter herself is worth the effort.
